E-Mail: ds@goaround.org (siehe auch Impressum)
2. Kurz gesagt
Nutzerprofile.
Der Webserver wird von der STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, als
Auftragsverarbeiter (Art. 28 DSGVO) betrieben.
- OpenTopoMap, Deutschland – opentopomap.org/about
- Stadia Maps (Stamen Terrain, Alidade Smooth Dark), USA – Datenschutzerklärung
7. Links zu anderen Diensten
Die Schaltflächen zum Bewerten (Google Play, App Store), zu Buy Me a Coffee und zur Spende an
YAWI-Ghana e.V. öffnen die jeweilige Seite im Browser bzw. Store.

2. In short
The Crosswind Calculator (app for iPhone/iPad and Android, and the web version at goaround.org/crosswind/) needs no user account and contains no advertising, no tracking and no third-party analytics or crash reporting services. Personal data is only processed as far as technically necessary for the app's features. It is not combined into profiles, not sold and not used for advertising.
3. Location
Purpose: The device location is used to show nearby METAR stations and the weather at your current position. It is only used if you switch on GPS in the app's settings and allow access in the system prompt. The app only requests it while in use, never in the background.
What is transmitted: The coordinates are sent to the goaround flight API (section 4) to retrieve nearby stations or the forecast for that position. If you have entered your own Pirate Weather key, the coordinates for the forecast go directly to Pirate Weather instead (section 5). The location is neither stored nor analysed on our server.
Legal basis: Access to the location is strictly necessary for the feature you requested (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). The subsequent processing serves to provide the app (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
You can switch off GPS in the app's settings or revoke location access in the settings of your device or browser. The app keeps working without nearby stations.
4. Weather, airport and aeronautical data (goaround flight API)
The app retrieves METAR, TAF, airports, runways, forecasts, webcams and the aeronautical map
layers (OpenAIP, open flightmaps) via the goaround flight API (goaround.org). The
server in turn obtains the data from aviationweather.gov (NOAA/National Weather Service, USA),
Pirate Weather, Windy, OpenAIP and open flightmaps, without any data of the app's users.
Data transmitted:
- IP address of the device (technically unavoidable for any internet request)
- Time and requested address, which depending on the feature contains: coordinates (section 3), map area, airport or station code, airport search term
- Identifier of the browser or system component (user agent). The app sends no device data or identifiers that would make individual users recognisable.
Storage: The API briefly uses the IP address for rate limiting (protection
against overload and abuse); it is stored in hashed form for about one minute at most. The API
stores no locations or search queries and creates no user profiles.
The web server is operated by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany, as
processor (Art. 28 GDPR). STRATO may record requests in server log files (IP address, time,
requested address, user agent), which are deleted after a short time. This also applies to
visits to the web version.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the features you use). Rate limiting and server log files are based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; the legitimate interest is secure and stable operation.
5. Your own Pirate Weather key (optional)
In the settings you can enter your own Pirate Weather API key. The app then retrieves the
forecast directly from Pirate Weather (api.pirateweather.net) and transmits your key,
the coordinates of the selected place and the device's IP address. Pirate Weather's terms apply:
pirate-weather.apiable.io/terms.
The key is only stored on your device. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
6. Map tiles
The base map of the METAR map is loaded by the device directly from the selected map provider, which receives the IP address, the displayed map area and the user agent:
- OpenStreetMap (default): OpenStreetMap Foundation, United Kingdom – privacy policy
- OpenTopoMap, Germany – opentopomap.org/about
- Stadia Maps (Stamen Terrain, Alidade Smooth Dark), USA – privacy policy
- Google (satellite imagery), USA – privacy policy
The European Commission has adopted an adequacy decision for the United Kingdom. Google and Stadia Maps process data in the USA; Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The aeronautical layers (OpenAIP, open flightmaps) come via the goaround flight API (section 4). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (showing weather stations on a map).
7. Links to other services
The buttons for rating (Google Play, App Store), Buy Me a Coffee and donating to YAWI-Ghana e.V.
open the respective page in the browser or store. Only then does the provider receive data, under
its own privacy terms. On the "Legal" page the app shows PayPal's donate image, loaded from
paypalobjects.com, which gives PayPal the IP address. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f)
GDPR.
8. Data on your device
Settings, favourites, your own aircraft for weight and balance and any API key you enter are only stored locally on your device or in your browser's storage. We do not receive this data. It is removed when you delete the app or the website data.
9. App Store and Google Play
Downloads and updates are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), who are responsible for this themselves. If you have enabled sharing analytics or crash data with app developers in your device settings, Apple or Google provide us with crash reports and usage statistics. We cannot attribute them to any person.
10. Contact by email
If you write to us, we process your email address and the content of your message to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). Once the request has been dealt with, we delete the message unless statutory retention obligations apply.
11. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). A message to ds@goaround.org is sufficient.
Right to object: You may object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR).
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the authority responsible for us: Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg, baden-wuerttemberg.datenschutz.de.
Providing data is neither a statutory nor a contractual requirement. Without location access only nearby stations and the weather at your current position are unavailable. There is no automated decision-making, including profiling.
Confidentialité – Crosswind Calculator (ftCrosswind)
Mise à jour : octobre 2026
- OpenTopoMap, Allemagne – opentopomap.org/about
